About us

National Concern for Healthcare Infections (NCHI) was formed by a group of individuals who had growing concerns over the issues of Patient Safety and all Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI).  NCHI have identified a need to inform, support and represent the interests and safety of patients and all individuals affected by these worrying concerns.  They are supported by a vast number of individuals who have all been affected directly or indirectly by medical harm.

In May 2008: NCHI representatives Bev Hurst & Graham Tanner were amongst the 22 Patient Safety Champions selected throughout England and Wales. This is part of a joint National Patient Safety Agency/AvMA project to recruit patients to work in partnership with NHS Staff on Patient Safety.  It is linked to the WHO World Alliance ‘Patients for Patient Safety’ initiative and implements a recommendation in Safety First (DoH 2006). An Early priority for the champions is to challenge the current ‘Culture of Denial’ and to promote ‘Being Open’.
